Summary
This decree changed the official name of the municipality of San Juan de Flores to Cantarranas in Francisco Morazán. The law recognizes the historical and cultural value of the original name that residents have preserved for centuries. The change only affects official documents and proceedings.
Considerations
That the Constitution of the Republic establishes in its Article 294 the power of the National Congress to define the territorial political division.
That Constitutional Articles 172 and 173 determine the mandates that promote the strengthening of cultural traditions and practices and the protection of the wealth that constitutes the Nation's cultural heritage and that one of these riches is comprised of historical values and traditions.
That the Municipality of San Juan de Flores, Department of Francisco Morazán, was founded with the Name of "Cantarranas", being refounded a century and a half later with the name it currently has. Notwithstanding its original name persists in all its social and cultural dynamics, being part of its historical, cultural and tourist wealth.
That the Constitution of the Republic determines in its Article 205 numeral 1), that it corresponds to the National Congress, to create, decree, reform, repeal and interpret the laws.
Articles
To establish with the official name of MUNICIPALITY OF "CANTARRANAS" the currently denominated "MUNICIPALITY OF SAN JUAN DE FLORES", located in the Territorial Jurisdiction of the Department of Francisco Morazán, a denominational change that is carried out as recognition of the historical value of the name "Cantarranas" associated with said Municipality and in respect of the cultural traditions of its inhabitants who have preserved it as such.
The new denomination indicated in the previous Article shall have legal effect solely as a change of name to be recorded in official documentation and cited in all official acts involving said Municipality.
This Decree shall enter into force as of the day of its publication in the Official Gazette La Gaceta. Given in the city of Tegucigalpa, Municipality of the Central District, in the Session Hall of the National Congress, on the ninth day of the month of June in two thousand eleven.
