Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Leyes.HN ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our service at https://leyes.hn (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the data practices described here.

Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile picture from Google.

Search activity. Each search you submit on the /search page is recorded with a timestamp, the query text, the language used, and the number of results returned. For anonymous visitors we record your IP address. For signed-in users we record your user ID. This data is used to apply per-minute anti-bot rate limits and to improve the Service.

Subscription and payment. When you subscribe to Leyes.HN Pro or Despacho, we receive your Stripe customer ID, subscription status, and billing period from Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number. All payment data is handled directly by Stripe under their own privacy and security policies.

Donations. When you make a one-time donation, Stripe collects your payment details and we receive the amount, the currency, the Stripe session ID, and the name and email address you provided to Stripe at checkout. If you are signed in, we also link the donation to your account. We never see or store your credit card number.

Donor names that meet the contributor thresholds are published on our public /colaboradores page. You can prevent this by checking "Donate anonymously" before paying; that choice is recorded before checkout and applies permanently to that donation. Your email address and the amount you gave are never published. If you have already donated and want your name removed, write to hola@leyes.hn.

Email alert preferences. If you opt in to email alerts on the /account page, we store the legal categories you have chosen to follow.

Cookies and tracking technologies. We use cookies to keep you signed in and remember your language preference. We also use cookies and similar technologies to measure site usage and advertising performance through Google Analytics, PostHog, the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, and the Microsoft Advertising UET tag. You may block cookies in your browser, but doing so may break account features.

How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

  • Operate the Service (search, accounts, subscriptions, alerts)
  • Send transactional emails such as password resets and law alerts
  • Process subscription payments and donations through Stripe
  • Apply per-minute anti-bot rate limits to all visitors
  • Analyze usage to improve search relevance and the user experience
  • Measure how visitors find and use the site, including the performance of any advertising we run
  • Respond to law-enforcement or court requests if legally required

Service Providers

We share the data we collect with the following third parties as needed to operate the Service:

  • Supabase — database and authentication
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Upstash — per-minute anti-bot rate limiting
  • PostHog — usage analytics
  • Google — usage analytics (Google Analytics)
  • Meta (Facebook) — advertising measurement (Meta Pixel)
  • Microsoft — advertising measurement (Microsoft Advertising UET tag)
  • Vercel — web hosting
  • Cloudflare — DNS, content delivery, and email routing
  • Meilisearch — search index hosting; every search query you submit is sent to it
  • Anthropic — AI-generated law summaries, AI-assisted search query understanding, and the opt-in AI answer feature
  • Voyage AI — search embeddings that power meaning-based (semantic) search, run automatically on every relevance-sorted search

These providers have their own privacy policies and may store data in jurisdictions outside Honduras, primarily in the United States.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Features

We use AI from two providers — Anthropic's Claude, and Voyage AI for search embeddings — in five places on the Service:

  • To help understand and broaden every search query so the database returns relevant laws across both English and Spanish (Anthropic, runs automatically on every search)
  • To match search results by meaning rather than exact wording, so paraphrased or differently-worded queries can still find the right law (Voyage AI, runs automatically on every relevance-sorted search)
  • To generate the short pre-written summary shown at the top of each law's detail page (Anthropic)
  • To power the opt-in "Search with AI" feature, which displays a plain-language answer above your search results (Anthropic)
  • To translate Spanish law titles and summaries into English where machine translation has been requested (Anthropic)

Background query understanding (automatic, every search). On every non-empty search, we transmit only your search query text to Anthropic so Claude can generate additional related Spanish legal terms used to broaden the database lookup. This is essential to delivering quality bilingual search — without it, "divorce" or "divorcio" would not consistently surface the Código de Familia, "I'm being extorted" or "me están extorsionando" would not consistently surface the Código Penal, and so on. We do not send your name, email address, IP address, account ID, or any other personal identifier in this step, and no law content is sent. The Anthropic call typically completes in under a second; if it fails or times out, we fall back to searching with your original query only.

Semantic search (automatic, every relevance-sorted search). Alongside background query understanding, we send the Anthropic-expanded version of your query text to Voyage AI, a separate AI provider, which converts it into a numeric representation (an "embedding") used to find laws that are conceptually related to your query even when they don't share the same wording. As with query understanding, we do not send your name, email, IP address, account ID, or any other personal identifier to Voyage AI, and no law content is sent during a search — only the (already AI-expanded) query text. This call typically completes in under a second; if it fails or times out, we fall back to keyword search alone for that request.

AI answer panel (opt-in, only when checked). When you check the "Search with AI" box and click through the warning, we additionally send the text of the laws that match your query so Claude can generate a plain-language answer displayed above the results. This is the only step in which law content leaves our database. The AI answer panel is off by default; you must opt in each session.

Pre-generated summaries. The summary shown on each law's detail page was generated by Claude when that law was first added to our database. Viewing a summary in your browser does not send any data to Anthropic at the time of viewing.

Our AI providers' data practices. Both Anthropic and Voyage AI process API data on servers in the United States. Per Anthropic's commercial terms, Anthropic does not use data submitted through their API to train their models; their full policy is available at anthropic.com. Voyage AI is a separate company from Anthropic — it provides only the embeddings used for semantic search and never receives law content during a live search.

If you do not want any data sent to our AI providers. You can use the Service without performing searches — for example, by clicking on category chips to filter laws or by visiting specific law detail pages directly through URLs. Browsing the Service in this way does not trigger any Anthropic or Voyage AI call. The AI-generated summaries on law pages were generated in advance and are served as static text, with no live AI call at view time.

Data Retention

  • Account information: retained until you request deletion
  • Search logs: retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
  • Subscription records: retained for the duration of applicable tax record-keeping requirements (typically 7 years)
  • Donation records: retained for the duration of applicable tax record-keeping requirements (typically 7 years)
  • Email alert preferences: retained until you unsubscribe or delete your account

Your Rights

You can:

  • Access and update your account information at any time
  • Unsubscribe from email alerts via the /account page
  • Cancel your paid subscription via the /account page
  • Request deletion of your account and personal data by emailing hola@leyes.hn
  • Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you

Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at hola@leyes.hn and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via email to registered users at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
