This law sets the minimum wages that must be paid in Honduras starting January 1, 2011, varying by economic sector and company size. The increase is based on the 6.5% inflation recorded in 2010 and aims to protect workers' purchasing power and improve their living conditions.

Considerations

That the economic system of Honduras is founded on the principles of efficiency in production and social justice in the distribution of wealth and national income, as well as in the harmonious coexistence of the factors of production that makes possible the dignification of work as a source of wealth and as a means of realization of the human person.

That the Constitution of the Republic and the current labor laws guarantee the right of every worker to earn a minimum wage sufficient to cover their normal needs and those of their family, in the material, moral and cultural order.

That the Minimum Wage Commission installed with representatives of the employers, workers and public sectors to reach the current minimum wage, made enormous efforts to achieve consensus on the draft agreement that would set it for the year 2011, without having achieved it, consequently, said responsibility must be assumed by the President of the Republic, as prescribed by law.

That according to official information provided by the Central Bank of Honduras, the continued increase in all or almost all prices of goods and services traded in the Honduran economy has resulted in an annual inflation rate of 6.5% as of December 2010, which is why it becomes necessary to restore in the same proportion the purchasing power of the minimum wage earned by workers.

That likewise, the Central Bank of Honduras estimates that the Average Growth Rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the year 2010 was 3%, a figure that allows for additionally decreeing a real adjustment to the minimum wage in accordance with the growth index expected by each of the economic sectors of the country, to boost the national economy and improve the living conditions of workers.
