Oficina Municipal de la Mujer (OMM)

Honduras has more than 298 municipalities and, in theory, each should have an Oficina Municipal de la Mujer (OMM), created by Decreto 232-98. There is no centralised public directory with contact details for each one.

Confirmed as having their own operating manual in: Distrito Central (Tegucigalpa), San Pedro Sula, Choloma, Tela, La Ceiba. These five municipalities are the only ones explicitly named in official sources as having their own operating manual for their OMM — that is, the ones most likely to be active with permanent staff.

If your municipality is not on that list, call your Alcaldía Municipal switchboard and ask for the Oficina Municipal de la Mujer. Municipal switchboards are more consistently public than each OMM’s direct line.

That free help is not a favour: it is a legal obligation. Article 4 of the Ley contra la Violencia Doméstica provides that, to guarantee that it is free of charge, the public or private institutions running legal-assistance programmes for women affected by domestic violence — the Ministerio Público, the lawyers of the Consejerías de Familia, or any state institution or non-governmental organisation — must attend to you and provide the appropriate legal services, and for that purpose every day and every hour is a working one. If they refuse you, they are refusing something you are entitled to.
