Rentista visa

The Rentista category is for people who can support themselves from steady foreign-sourced income — rental earnings, investment returns and similar passive income — rather than from a Honduran salary. The headline requirement is at least $2,500 per month, documented, from outside Honduras.

This is general information, not legal advice, and thresholds and rules can change. Confirm the current figures and document list with a Honduran immigration lawyer or the Instituto Nacional de Migración before you file.

Who it fits

Rentista suits people whose income comes from abroad and is not tied to a job in Honduras — landlords, investors, and others living off portfolio or rental income. Because the income is foreign-sourced and passive, the category does not require Honduran employment and does not, by itself, grant the right to take a local job.

The income requirement

The core threshold is a minimum of $2,500 per month in foreign-sourced income, and you must be able to prove it — typically with bank statements, contracts, or other records showing the income is real, recurring and coming from outside Honduras.

Standard documentation

Beyond proof of income, expect the usual residency paperwork: a police record, a health certificate, and other standard supporting documents. If you are not sure Rentista is the right route — for example, if your income is a pension rather than rentals or investments — the eligibility quiz can point you to the category that fits, and the category landing page lists all the residency routes side by side.
