Pensionado visa

The Pensionado category is the residency route for retirees and pensioners. It is popular with people relocating to Honduras in retirement, and its income threshold — at least $1,500 per month from a qualifying pension — is lower than the Rentista requirement precisely because it is pension-specific.

Who it fits

Pensionado is built for retirees drawing a pension — whether from a government, a former employer, or a qualifying private pension. It is one of the most common routes for foreign retirees settling in Honduras, and the pension does not have to come from Honduran employment.

The pension requirement

The threshold is a pension of at least $1,500 per month. Because the category is defined around a genuine pension, the required amount is lower than the $2,500 per month of foreign income the Rentista route asks for. You will need to document the pension and show it is recurring.

Rentista or Pensionado?
